Ron Thorpe

The Victorian Association for Newsagents.

Ron has spent the majority of his working life involved in the Greeting Card Industry.

After spending 41 years with the largest greeting company in the world Hallmark Cards he retired 12 years ago. He assures me he was only 6 years of age when he joined!

During this career Ron rose to the position of Sales Director and was instrumental in assisting Hallmark to become the leader in the card industry.

After retiring and quickly becoming bored he was asked to join the Board of the Victorian Newsagents Association where is now Treasurer. Newsagents are being challenged on many fronts but still remain viable businesses. The Newsagency business is his first love and he has an ongoing dedication and commitment to protecting this iconic retail entity

He is also President of the Australian Greeting Card Association with whom he has been involved with for 18 years

In addition to these roles he is also a part time Sales Director at a Vending Machine Company.

Married to Gay with 2 adult children of his own and 2 step-children, plus 3 Grand-daughters and one on the way (a boy actually)

He and Gay reside in Wheelers Hill but thoroughly enjoy they spend on the Peninsula through their holiday home in Sorrento. He is also a member of the Melbourne and Sorrento Sharks football clubs!

Is a Charter and now Life Member of the Rotary Club of Mt Waverley since it’s inception in 1985.
